Wellbeing Coaching For Teens
Updated: Oct 14
"Teaching people how to regulate their emotions is crime prevention. It´s addiction prevention. It´s suicide prevention. It´s generational healing. It´s how we stop raising adults who explode, implode, or shut down at the first sign of discomfort ... Do we want a better world? Start with emotional education." unknown
Growing up has never been easy, but in today’s world, children and teenagers face more challenges and pressures than ever before. From social media and peer pressure to academic expectations, social conflicts, and the emotional demands of everyday life, they are living in a world that is increasingly complex. Oftentimes, they don´t know how to make sense of it all, how to express what they´re feeling, or how to navigate the beautiful, messy journey of growing up.
This is at the heart of my wellbeing coaching sessions ❤️
I offer Wellbeing Coaching sessions for ages 10-17.
A safe, one-to-one online space that is just theirs A safe, one-to-one online space that is entirely their own, where preteens and teens can talk openly about the social and emotional challenges they’re facing, or simply share whatever is on their minds and in their hearts. A space where they’re met with an adult who listens without judgment, and offers guidance, opportunities to reflect on their strengths, and support as they find their own solutions and learn to navigate their own path.
A supportive and compassionate approach that helps young people develop:
Confidence and self-belief
Emotional regulation and resilience
A growth mindset/success mindset
Self-understanding and intuition
Tools for navigating life’s challenges or friendships
Conflict resolution
Different tools and strategies ways to calm their nervous system
Goal setting, critical thinking, problem solving, time management
Help manage academic performance
Empowerment: to help build healthy lifestyle habits
Flexibility: There isn’t always a set agenda for each session. I allow space for what comes up naturally and, above all, focus on what they need, desire or are interested in.
Choice and autonomy: Young people are encouraged to make choices about what feels helpful for them. I offer many tools, strategies and resources that they can explore at their own pace and interest.
Supporting, not changing, who they are: The aim isn’t to change their personality or who they are. It’s about helping them better understand themselves, recognise all of their gifts, their inner light. When we begin to recognize the negative self-talk and limiting beliefs we carry about ourselves, we can start to question them rather than simply accept them as truth. With the right support, those inner conversations can begin to shift ~ making space for more self-belief, and a kinder way of seeing ourselves.
A personalised Well-being Plan: After each session, I create a personalised Well-being Plan with input from the teen. This is tailored to their individual needs, goals and aspirations and is shared with the parent or teen.
Sessions that can last up to 60 minutes: I like to leave some wiggle room at the end of each session so there is time to connect with parents when needed. We are a team. Session length depends on age and person.
Grounded in experience and ongoing learning: My approach draws on years of teaching experience, continued professional learning, and my training as a holistic mental health coach: cognitive behavioural coaching, positive psychology + more.
*When necessary, I will recommend homeopathic remedies or flower essences as part of their wider well-being support. For deeper, long lasting change and personal growth.
Perhaps you recognize some of this in your own child...
Do they struggle to settle or switch off?
Do they seem very sensitive, intuitive or perceptive?
Are they highly creative or imaginative yet struggle academically?
Do they become overwhelmed easily by noise, busy environments or other people's emotions?
Do they struggle with perfectionism?
Do they find everyday social situations difficult?
Do they struggle to understand or express how they are feeling?
Do they struggle with negative self talk or regulating their emotions?
Tween and teen coaching sessions can be incredibly helpful and supportive particularly in addressing the root causes when combined with appropriate remedies and strategies. When we are working with/raising children and teenagers, there’s something important we all need to remember. They’re still growing. They’re learning about themselves, learning how relationships work, learning how to handle big feelings and figuring out how to navigate the world around them. Their brains are still developing too. Their prefrontal cortex, which is involved in things like planning, self-control and judgement, continues to develop well into their mid twenties. Not only that, it is also a time of significant hormonal changes, physical development, all of which can influence how they feel, think and behave.
Emotional regulation is not the absence of emotions. It is the capacity to name it and feel it without handing it control over what happens next.
