"The sun is available to those who choose to step into its light." ~Unknown

When your holistic health practice is called Sol Frequency, writing about the sun almost feels like a given. At Sol Frequency, so much of the work I do with clients comes back to the basics ~ to what is natural, what is already around us, and what is already within us. Maybe that’s part of why I’ve always been so drawn to the sun. It reminds me that some of the things that nourish us most are also the simplest and have been here all along.

We know we need the sun. We feel its absence. We seek it out without thinking when we’ve had too many grey days and that´s because the sun is one of the most powerful healers we have. Yet for some of us, it has become something we tend to fear. Warnings about sunburn, UV rays, and skin damage sometimes make it seem like sunlight is dangerous and should be avoided rather than seen as a source for natural healing. When approached sensibly, sunlight becomes one of the simplest and most nourishing forms of natural medicine available. Its warmth and light are essential for our physical, mental, emotional, and energetic health, and even a few minutes each day can ripple through the body and mind in incredible ways.

When our skin meets sunlight, our body begins to naturally produce vitamin D, which supports strong bones, a healthy immune system, balanced hormones and so on.

A dose of sunshine can stimulate circulation and metabolism, giving us a natural energy boost. Even brief exposure can begin to calm the nervous system and ease stress, creating that grounding “ahhhh” feeling that we sometimes forget is so important in our busy day to day lives. Just twenty minutes in the morning before peak UV hours or late afternoon provides a powerful, safe dose of vitality that supports immunity, energy, and overall well-being.

Ancient Cultures

Across cultures and throughout history, the sun has been recognized as a source of life energy, nourishing the body’s natural systems and subtle energy fields. Its electromagnetic energy naturally tunes our internal rhythms. Exposure to sunlight literally cues the brain to release chemicals that support mood, cognition, and restful sleep, blending sunlight and science in a way that reminds us how beautifully aligned our bodies are with the natural world. Human beings are attuned to the energetic vibrations of nature.

Homeopathic remedy: SOL

In homeopathy, there is a remedy called Sol, prepared from sunlight. It belongs to a group of remedies called the Imponderables. They are truly fascinating remedies! They are made from pure energetic phenomena - things that can’t be touched, or weighed in a traditional way.

Homeopaths may consider using Sol for people who struggle with low energy, mood changes, or insomnia especially during darker winter months ~ those that struggle with Seasonal Affective Disorder. It can be used in certain cases of sunburn or sun stroke. I personally love to take a dose or two of Sol when I know I will be spending hours under the summer sun. For those of you that like to make homemade sunscreens, we can also add a liquid dose of Sol (at the very end). It is a remedy that I personally like to include in my “radiotherapy support blend” for those undergoing radiotherapy.

If you are someone who finds that the sun tends to leave you feeling unwell, or you experience headaches after being in the sun, it may be your body’s way of asking for a little extra care and support. While staying hydrated, eating regularly and wearing a hat can certainly help, sometimes we need to look a little deeper. Homeopathy offers a natural, individualized approach to supporting you when these usual measures aren’t quite enough.

But why isn´t the sun and/or supplements always enough?

The sun hasn’t lost its healing power. It’s just that our society looks and functions very differently than it once did. The sun hasn’t lost its healing power. It’s just that our society looks and functions very differently than it once did. There are also so many supplements varying in quality, effectiveness, and price. Which is why I think it is important to remember that much of our health and well-being begins with us ~ in how we nourish ourselves, care for our bodies, and how we live each day. Good gut and liver health also play an important role in how our body processes and uses vitamin D. Reducing stress is important too. When we are constantly under stress, our bodies are using energy to cope and adapt and may have a harder time absorbing and assimilating nutrients ~ which can affect many of the systems that keep us well. The sun still has so much to offer though. The more we make time to step away from our busy lives, spend time outdoors and reconnect with nature, the more we can support our bodies in the way they were intended.

Best thing about the sun is that it is completely free!

No paid subscriptions. No paid memberships. That alone is revitalizing.

Some of my fondest winter memories growing up in Ontario, Canada was looking up at the blue sky and noticing the sun shining beautifully overhead. The light would catch the snow and reflect like thousands of tiny diamonds. It was magical, sparkling in every direction!

It happened often even when it was -10 degrees. Brrrrr..... Sadly, from what I’ve heard, that doesn’t happen very much anymore.

Maybe that is why those memories have stayed with me all these years. There was something about seeing the sunlight shining so brightly in the middle of that cold, long winter that made everything feel a little lighter, brighter, and a little more hopeful. I can’t help but think that there is beauty in the way nature reminds us that darkness does not mean the light is gone. Even when the sky is heavy and the sun is nowhere to be seen, it is still there, waiting for its moment to return.

Shine bright <3
